The Spirit of 78 Triathlon is a unique triathlon event held on October 10, 2026, along the Douro river between Porto and Gondomar, Portugal. The race starts and finishes at Freixo – Porto, celebrating the spirit of the original 1978 Hawaii triathlon with a focus on spontaneity, friendship, and a festive atmosphere.
Participation is limited to 80 athletes, including finishers from previous editions and selected newcomers. The event preserves the original competition conditions, including open water swimming supervised by friends on boats and open traffic with adherence to traffic rules.
