This Privacy Policy describes RaceFinder’s data processing practices in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — Regulation (EU) 2016/679 — and applicable law in Portugal. By using our website, you agree to the terms of this policy.

Data may be shared with event organizers and service providers associated with the platform to fulfil these purposes, as described in section 4.

4. Sharing Data with Third Parties

RaceFinder does not sell or share users’ personal data with third parties, except in the following situations:

  • With organizers of events in which the user has registered — the organizer becomes an independent data controller for the registration data they access, for the purposes of race-day logistics
  • With service providers and partners involved in website management and service delivery, under GDPR-compliant data processing agreements
  • With Google, via Google Site Kit, for website performance analytics — subject to your consent
  • With Meta (Facebook), via the Facebook Pixel, for advertising and conversion tracking — subject to your consent
  • When required by law or court order

5. User Rights

Under the GDPR, users have the following rights in relation to their personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15) — you may request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16) — you may request correction of inaccurate or outdated information
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17) — you may request the deletion of your personal data, unless we are legally required to retain it
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18) — you may request that we limit the use of your data in certain circumstances
  • Right to object (Art. 21) — you may refuse the use of your data for direct marketing or on the basis of legitimate interests

6. Data Storage and Security

Personal data is stored on secure servers. We implement security measures to protect personal data, including firewalls, encryption, and restricted access controls. However, data transmission over the internet is not completely secure, and users acknowledge this risk when using the platform.

Data is retained for the following periods:

  • Account data: retained for the duration of the account and deleted or anonymised within 90 days of closure
  • Event registration data: retained for 10 years for fiscal and legal compliance, as required by Portuguese law
  • Marketing data (newsletter): retained until consent is withdrawn or the user unsubscribes
  • Analytics data: retained for up to 26 months, in line with the tool’s default settings
  • Support communications: retained for 3 years

In the event of a personal data breach that poses a risk to your rights, we will notify the CNPD within 72 hours and inform affected users without undue delay, as required by Articles 33 and 34 of the GDPR.

7. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers (including Google and Meta) are based outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Transfers of data to these providers are made under appropriate safeguards — namely the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) — ensuring a level of protection equivalent to that required by the GDPR.

11. Children’s Data

The RaceFinder website is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data without parental consent, please contact support@racefinder.pt and we will delete that data.

For youth and junior race categories listed on the platform, registration of minors must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, who accepts responsibility for the minor’s participation.
