Summer may be coming to an end, but the racing calendar certainly isn’t.

In fact, September, October and November bring some of the most interesting road races of the year in Portugal. There are 10Ks for runners looking to test their speed, half marathons for those ready for a new challenge, a marathon to cap off months of training, and even a 21K climb up Serra da Estrela for anyone who thinks a regular half marathon is no longer enough.

If you still have room for another start line in your 2026 calendar, here are 10 races worth keeping an eye on over the next few months.

1. Meia Maratona Flor de Sal

📅 12 September 2026
📍 Altura, Castro Marim
🏃 21.1K | 10.5K

We start in the Algarve, and after sunset.

Meia Maratona Flor de Sal is an evening race starting at 8:00 pm near the Altura Athletics Track. The half marathon consists of four laps, while the 10.5K option completes two laps of the same circuit.

It is an interesting choice for runners who want to race in the Algarve in September without facing an early start under the summer heat.

2. Meia Maratona da Benedita

📅 13 September 2026
📍 Benedita, Alcobaça
🏃 21K | 10K | 5K | Kids

You do not need to convince everyone in the group to run a half marathon.

In Benedita, the programme includes competitive 21K and 10K races, a 5K walk and a 500-metre Kids Run. The event is organised by Bombeiros Voluntários da Benedita and includes electronic timing for the main distances.

It is a great choice for a race weekend with friends or family when everyone has a different goal.

3. Meia Maratona Loures-Odivelas-Loures

📅 20 September 2026
📍 Loures and Odivelas, Lisbon
🏃 21K | 10K | 5/6K | Kids

Loures and Odivelas come together again for a race connecting the two municipalities.

The half marathon starts at 9:00 am and features a course with international measurement certification from World Athletics. The event also includes a 10K race, a walk and children’s races taking place the day before.

For runners looking to make the beginning of autumn their first big 21K test, this is one to consider around Lisbon.

4. Meia Maratona do Ameal

📅 27 September 2026
📍 Coimbra
🏃 21.1K | 10.3K | 10K Walk

If your goal involves watching the clock, this race deserves attention.

The Meia Maratona do Ameal course is officially measured by the Portuguese Athletics Federation and certified by World Athletics. The 21.0975K route has just 66 metres of elevation gain, following roads through Taveiro, Ameal and Arzila.

There is also a 10.3K race and a 10K walk.

It could be a particularly interesting choice for anyone reaching the end of September ready to see what a summer training block has actually produced.

5. Meia-Maratona de Ovar

📅 4 October 2026
📍 Ovar, Aveiro
🏃 21.1K | 10K

In 2026, Meia-Maratona Cidade de Ovar reaches its 36th edition, which says plenty about its place on Portugal’s running calendar.

Alongside the 21.0975K half marathon, runners can choose a competitive 10K, while the programme also includes a walk and children’s event. The competitive courses are certified and feature electronic timing.

It is one of the most complete options for turning the first weekend of October into a proper race weekend.

6. Meia Maratona de Leiria

📅 18 October 2026
📍 Leiria
🏃 21K | 10K | 5K | Kids

Still not sure whether October should be about a 10K or a half marathon? In Leiria, you can choose.

Both competitive distances start at 9:40 am, while the event also includes a 5K walk and a Kids Parents & Children race.

With several distances taking place as part of the same event, it is another great option for friends or families who want to share race day without necessarily sharing the same goal.

7. Grande Corrida A Previdência Portuguesa

📅 18 October 2026
📍 Coimbra
🏃 10K

Not every autumn goal needs to end with a half marathon or marathon.

Grande Corrida A Previdência Portuguesa takes place at Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra and features a 10K course certified by World Athletics and the Portuguese Athletics Federation.

The morning also includes several races for younger age groups.

For runners who have spent much of the year building mileage and now want to find out what happens when they swap distance for speed, this could be exactly the right goal.

8. Estrela Road Challenge

📅 25 October 2026
📍 Manteigas, Serra da Estrela
🏃 21K Uphill | 42K Uphill + Downhill | 42K Relay

Technically, it is a road race. In practice, the numbers tell a slightly different story.

The Uphill race begins in Manteigas and finishes at Torre: 21 kilometres with 1,600 metres of elevation gain.

Those wanting even more can take on the 42K uphill-and-downhill race, while a relay option allows two runners to share the challenge.

It is probably the least suitable race on this list for obsessing over pace, and one of the best for finishing the year with a very good story.

9. Porto Marathon

📅 8 November 2026
📍 Porto
🏃 42.195K | 10K | 6K Walk

November brings one of the biggest race weekends on the Portuguese running calendar.

Porto Marathon returns on 8 November, with the event starting near SEA LIFE Porto and finishing at Queimódromo, next to Parque da Cidade.

Alongside the classic 42.195K marathon, the programme includes a timed 10K race and a 6K walk.

So even if a marathon is not currently part of your plans, you can still experience the atmosphere without having to explain to your friends why your Sunday long run suddenly takes three hours.

10. Meia Maratona dos Descobrimentos

📅 29 November 2026
📍 Belém, Lisbon
🏃 21K | 10K | 4K | Kids

We finish November beside the Tagus.

Meia Maratona dos Descobrimentos starts at Praça do Império and finishes near Museu da Marinha. The programme includes a half marathon, a 10K race, a 4K walk and children’s races.

With two competitive distances to choose from, it is a good opportunity to set one final goal before December arrives and Portugal’s São Silvestre season begins to take over the calendar.

September, October or November: Which One Will You Choose?

That is the great thing about this part of the season: there is no single right answer.

You can choose a 10K and try to run faster. You can finally step up to 21.1K. You can spend months preparing for a marathon. Or you can look at a road climbing 1,600 metres through Serra da Estrela and, for some reason, decide that sounds like an excellent idea.

What matters is having another date on the calendar that makes you want to keep training.

On RaceFinder, you can discover races across Portugal and abroad, compare distances, dates and locations, and find the next challenge that makes sense for you.

There is still plenty of 2026 left. And plenty of start lines too.
