Event summary
The ALUT – Algarviana Ultra Trail 2026 is an extreme trail running event taking place from November 26 to 29, 2026, starting at the quay of Alcoutim, Portugal. This ultra trail covers approximately 305 km along the Via Algarviana, with a time limit of 72 hours to complete the course.
Participation is only allowed in the solo category, requiring athletes to have completed at least one race awarding 4 ITRA points between January 2024 and September 2026. The race challenges participants with difficult terrain, adverse weather conditions, sleep deprivation, navigation, and orientation, emphasizing self-sufficiency and safety.
The event is organized by ATR – Associação Algarve Trail Running with support from local municipalities and institutional partners. It offers a unique experience through the natural landscapes of the Algarve region, with multiple life bases providing support and a competitive atmosphere for ultra-endurance athletes.

Surface types: Trail running on Via Algarviana and natural terrain
Course format: Single ultra trail course approximately 305 km
Race routes: Majority on Via Algarviana, marked with posts, arrows, and natural markings; GPS navigation mandatory
Timing method: GPS tracking with mandatory device; failure to submit GPS data results in disqualification
Toilets and aid station placement: Aid stations with food and liquids at all life bases
Parking and shuttle details: Transfers included from Faro to Alcoutim on Nov 26 and from Sagres to Faro on Nov 29 (if requested at registration)
Drop bag policy: Participants receive labels for drop bags at life bases; bags returned only on last day; uncollected bags destroyed or sent at participant’s cost plus €50 fee
Prizes: Awards for top five men and women overall; no age categories unless otherwise indicated in athlete guide
