Race Calendar: Test Your Fitness Before the End of 2026

The year is not over yet — and your best race could still be ahead of you.

If you have been training consistently, the final months of 2026 are the perfect time to turn that work into a clear goal. You can test your speed over 5K or 10K, step up to a half marathon, or swap the road for the trails.

We have selected road races and trail events with registration currently available directly through RaceFinder. From October to December, there are options for different experience levels, distances and regions across Portugal.

October: Find Your Pace

Ovar Half Marathon — 4 October

The Ovar Half Marathon is a great opportunity to test your endurance at the beginning of autumn. Its programme includes a half marathon, a 10K race, a walk and a free event for younger participants.

The 10K is a strong choice if you want to measure your progress and speed. The 21.1K offers a more complete challenge for runners who have been steadily building their weekly mileage.

Faro City Race — 4 October

For runners looking for a classic and straightforward challenge, the Faro City Race features a 10K road race alongside events for younger age groups.

It is a good opportunity to race with control, test your target pace and assess your current fitness before choosing your next goal.

Grande Prémio do Vale Grande — 5 October

The Grande Prémio do Vale Grande offers 5K and 10K races, as well as a walk and children’s events.

A 5K will test your speed and ability to sustain a high intensity. The 10K requires more pacing and endurance. Choose the distance that best matches your current training.

Trilho das Oliveiras — 11 October

Would you rather leave the tarmac behind? Trilho das Oliveiras offers several trail and walking options, allowing you to experience natural terrain or gradually increase your distance.

It is an opportunity to assess your strength, technique and ability to adapt to climbs, descents and changing surfaces — all the elements that make trail running so different from road racing.

Leiria Half Marathon — 18 October

The Leiria Half Marathon brings together a half marathon, a shorter race and a walk, with options for different levels of preparation.

If you already run 10K regularly and want to find out whether you are ready to go further, the half marathon could be the right goal. If speed is your priority, the shorter distance remains an excellent fitness test.

20 Kms de Almeirim — 25 October

Between the 10K and the half marathon lies a distance that does not appear on every race calendar: 20 kilometres. 20 Kms de Almeirim also includes a 10K race and a 5K walk.

The 20K is a valuable preparation race for anyone targeting a half marathon or marathon later in the season. It can also be a rewarding goal in its own right for runners who want to test their endurance without committing to 21.1K.

November: Go Further or Discover New Terrain

Trail Glória do Ribatejo — 1 November

Trail Glória do Ribatejo offers 10K, 18K and 30K routes, as well as a walk.

The range of distances makes it suitable for both trail-running beginners and experienced athletes looking for a longer challenge. On the trails, the result depends on much more than pace: terrain, elevation and effort management all play an important role.

Trail Aldeia da Granja — 8 November

With 12K and 24K trail races and an 8K walk, Trail Aldeia da Granja is a good choice for anyone seeking time in nature without stepping into ultra-distance territory.

The 12K is an accessible introduction to trail racing. The 24K requires greater endurance and preparation, especially because trail kilometres rarely compare directly with road kilometres.

Nazaré International Half Marathon — 15 November

The Nazaré International Half Marathon celebrates its 50th edition with a half marathon, a 10K race and an 8K walk.

The main race follows a largely flat route, making it a particularly attractive opportunity to chase a personal best over 21.1K. If you are not ready to move up to the half marathon yet, the 10K provides an excellent alternative.

Évora Half Marathon — 21 and 22 November

The Évora Half Marathon includes a half marathon, a 10K race, a 5K walk and children’s events.

Starting near the Água de Prata Aqueduct and finishing in Praça do Giraldo, the event combines a sporting challenge with a historic setting. Choose the 10K to test your speed or close your season with a half marathon.

6 Cascatas Trail Running — 29 November

6 Cascatas Trail Running features 13K and 24K trail races and an 11K walk in Cheleiros.

With challenging terrain and elevation, it is a strong choice for runners who want to assess their technical and physical progress on the trails before winter begins.

December: Finish the Year with One Last Challenge

SPT Urban Night Trail — 5 December

The SPT Urban Night Trail – Alenquer Presépio de Portugal combines running, local heritage and a festive atmosphere. It includes a 13K competitive urban night trail and an 8K walk.

It is a different kind of challenge for anyone who wants to experience urban trail running at night, on a route that crosses streets, trails and some of Alenquer’s most distinctive areas.

Pinga Trail — 6 December

The Pinga Trail offers 16K and 23K trail races and a 10K walk in Arruda dos Vinhos.

The two competitive distances allow you to choose between a shorter, more intense challenge and a longer endurance effort. It is a great opportunity to close the year on the trails and see how much you have progressed during the season.

São Silvestre da Batalha — 12 December

A São Silvestre race is one of the best ways to close the road-running calendar. São Silvestre da Batalha includes an approximately 10K race, a 5K walk and events for younger runners.

It is the right distance to race hard, celebrate the consistency of the previous months and finish 2026 with the energy of a live event.

Trail Winter Challenge — 13 December

For runners who would rather finish the year beside the sea, the Trail Winter Challenge features approximately 14K and 20K trail races and a 12K walk in Ericeira.

The courses combine inland trails and coastal areas, creating one final technical and scenic challenge before the end-of-year break.

Which Race Should You Choose to Test Your Fitness?

The answer depends on what you have been training for:

  • To test your speed: choose a 5K or 10K road race.
  • To assess your endurance: target a 20K or half marathon.
  • To test your strength and technique: choose a short or medium-distance trail.
  • To break away from your routine: try an urban trail or a night race.

Choose a distance that matches your preparation, check the event regulations and avoid suddenly increasing your training volume just to reach the start line. The goal is to put your training to the test — not to improvise your preparation in the final weeks.

There Is Still Time for One More Goal in 2026

October, November and December still offer plenty of opportunities to achieve something new. Choose your race, add the date to your calendar and give your next training sessions a clear purpose.
