7 Running Races in Portugal to Finish 2026 Strong

Summer may be over, but the running season certainly is not.

From October through December, the calendar is still packed with running races in Portugal, ranging from fast road 10Ks and half marathons to mountain races and long trail challenges.

So if you still have room for one more goal before turning your attention to 2027, these seven races are worth adding to your calendar.

1. Corrida Cidade de Faro — 4 October

October begins in the Algarve with the 6th Corrida Cidade de Faro, featuring a main 10 km road race alongside races for younger age groups.

Open to both affiliated and non-affiliated runners, the event is an accessible option for anyone looking for an autumn 10K — whether the goal is simply to race again or chase a faster time.

It is also a good excuse to combine a race weekend with a few days in southern Portugal.

2. Grande Prémio do Vale Grande — 5 October

One day later, Odivelas hosts the 10th Grande Prémio do Vale Grande.

The programme includes 10 km and 5 km races, as well as a walk and children’s events, making it suitable for several levels of runner.

For those based around Lisbon who want another race before the end of the year without committing to a half marathon, either distance can make an excellent October target.

3. Corrida Outubro Rosa — 10 October

Not every race needs to be only about the stopwatch.

The Corrida Outubro Rosa, held in Coimbra on 10 October, combines running with awareness around breast cancer prevention.

The event includes a 10 km race, offering another opportunity to put a meaningful autumn goal on the calendar while taking part in an event with a wider social purpose.

4. Hyundai Lisbon Half Marathon — 11 October

If you are ready to increase the distance, October also brings one of the most popular challenges among road runners: 21.1 km.

The Hyundai Lisbon Half Marathon takes place on 11 October and offers runners the chance to turn months of summer training into a major autumn race goal.

For athletes who are not quite ready for a half marathon, the same weekend also includes the EDP 8K, providing a shorter way to experience the atmosphere of a large Lisbon running event.

5. Estrela Road Challenge — 25 October

A road race does not necessarily mean flat city streets.

The Estrela Road Challenge 2026, in Manteigas, takes road running into the mountains of Serra da Estrela.

The event features three formats: a 21 km Uphill, a 42 km Uphill + Downhill, and a 42 km Relay Team option shared between two runners.

Here, distance is only part of the challenge. Elevation, pacing and managing your effort over sustained climbs become just as important as speed.

For runners looking for something between traditional road racing and mountain running, this is one of the more distinctive options on the late-season calendar.

6. Trail do Zêzere — 14–15 November

If October still feels too soon, November is a great time to swap the road for the trails.

Trail do Zêzere, in Ferreira do Zêzere, offers several race distances, including 49 km, 33 km, 22 km and 13 km.

That range makes the event suitable for very different goals: from runners looking for a shorter trail experience to athletes ready for several hours of endurance racing.

For those taking on the longest distance, the combination of distance and elevation makes it a serious late-season objective rather than simply another weekend run.

7. Pinga Trail — 6 December

And yes, there are still races in December.

The 9th Pinga Trail, taking place in Arruda dos Vinhos on 6 December, offers 23 km and 16 km trail races, together with a 10 km walk.

Its routes pass through military paths and historic forts in the region, adding something different to the usual trail-running experience.

For runners who would rather finish 2026 with muddy shoes than wait until January for a new goal, this could be exactly the race to end the year.

There is still time for one more race

One of the advantages of running in Portugal is that the race calendar does not end with summer.

Faro, Odivelas, Coimbra, Lisbon, Serra da Estrela, Ferreira do Zêzere and Arruda dos Vinhos all offer completely different running experiences between October and December.

The right choice depends on what you still want from 2026.

A final 10K? Your first half marathon? A mountain race? Or several hours on the trails?

There is still time to choose one more goal.

On RaceFinder, you can explore races by sport, distance, date and location and find your next start line before the year is over.
