There’s a moment when road running starts to feel limited. Curiosity about trails appears naturally — different landscapes, different rhythms and a new kind of running experience.

The good news is that you don’t need mountain experience to join your first trail race. Across Portugal, many events offer accessible distances, runnable terrain and welcoming atmospheres that make them ideal for beginners.

Based on the trail running calendar in Portugal for May and June 2026, we selected several events that are especially suitable for a first trail experience.

4. Trail Praia Mag8 — Sintra

5. Furnas Night Trail — São Miguel (Azores)
