April remains one of the best months of the year for trail running in Portugal. Mild temperatures, green landscapes and varied terrain make this the perfect time to explore new routes or test your fitness before the summer race season begins.

If you’re looking for your next trail challenge, these events are still open and worth adding to your calendar:

Farol Adventure Trail

Taking place in the Azores, the Farol Adventure Trail offers one of the most scenic trail experiences in Portugal. With distances ranging from 9 km to 36 km, runners cross coastal cliffs, volcanic valleys and waterfalls on Flores Island.

A perfect option if you’re looking to combine racing with adventure.

Trail da Liberdade

A great spring trail race with a strong community atmosphere and accessible distances. Ideal both for runners trying trail running for the first time and for those keeping race consistency during the season.

VI Trail Nascente e Vale do Neiva

With distances up to 45 km, this race takes runners through forests, historic paths and riverside trails along the Neiva Valley. A solid choice if you’re preparing for longer trail races later in the year.

Trilhos da Boa Viagem

Located near Moita, Trilhos da Boa Viagem combines nature, local heritage and a welcoming race atmosphere, with distances between 12 km and 23 km plus walking options.

A great event to keep momentum without the pressure of a major competition.

Trail Volta às Origens

A trail race strongly connected to its local landscape and community spirit. Ideal for runners who enjoy authentic trail routes and technical terrain in a friendly race environment.

April isn’t over yet, and there are still plenty of opportunities to line up at the start of a race across Portugal. Whether you prefer technical trails, scenic routes, or simply want to stay consistent with your training and racing routine, this is the perfect moment to choose your next challenge.

Many events are still open for registration — and sometimes the hardest part is simply deciding which one to pick.
