Some races don’t just test your legs — they reshape the way you experience nature, silence and effort.
The Proença Cross Trail is exactly that kind of race.

Technical trails, endless climbs, tiny villages hidden in the forest, and that special atmosphere only true trail runners know.
From 19 to 21 December 2025, Proença-a-Nova becomes a meeting point for athletes looking for real adventure — the kind that demands strength, strategy and heart.

And this year, the event is once again shaping up to be one of the highlights of Portugal’s trail running calendar.

Four races, one wild and beautiful territory

The PCT offers routes for different levels of athletes — but all share the same essence:
that raw, authentic feeling of running deep in nature, just you and the trail.

🏃 Youth Trail — 14.7 km (+632 m)

Short, fast and perfect for discovering the event’s true spirit.

⚡ Sprint Trail — 25.6 km (+1,414 m)

A deceptive distance: steep climbs, technical descents and intense segments throughout.

⛰️ Ultra Trail — 49.6 km (+2,492 m)

A demanding “middle ground” with long climbs, stunning views and constant effort management.

🔥 Ultra Endurance Trail — 99.6 km (+4,302 m)

The queen stage.
99 km across Proença-a-Nova’s rugged landscapes, tough passes and a full circular route built to challenge even the most seasoned ultra runners.

Why is the Proença Cross Trail so special?

One of Portugal’s oldest trail races (since 2012), known for its authentic spirit
Real, raw terrain — single tracks, rocky climbs, technical sections and natural landscapes
Strong community vibe, with experienced organisers and supportive volunteers
Great course marking, consistently praised by past participants
Perfect way to close the year with a meaningful, challenging achievement

Who should run which distance?

  • 14 km → beginners or anyone wanting a short pre-Christmas challenge
  • 25 km → athletes used to sprint-distance trail races with steep elevation
  • 50 km → runners ready to step into the world of ultras
  • 100 km → the pure adventurers; ideal for ending the year with a major accomplishment

Why run it in December?

December in Proença-a-Nova means cold air, wet trails, dense vegetation and a true sense of wilderness.
It’s not just a physical test — it’s a mental one too, and that’s what makes it unforgettable.

In short

If you’re looking for an authentic, scenic and demanding trail running challenge, the Proença Cross Trail is a perfect choice.
A race with soul, designed for athletes who value real trails and want to finish the year with a story worth telling.
