When someone mentions trail running near Lisbon, I’ll admit I’m usually a little skeptical. In my head, “real” trail running means mountains, plenty of elevation gain, and at least a couple of hours in the car before reaching the start line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So when I signed up for Oeiras Trail Run in 2025, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The truth? I loved it. And I clearly wasn’t the only one. Looking around on race day, it was easy to see that many athletes return year after year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the things I remember most is the weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was it cold? Yes. But it was the good kind of cold. The kind where you’re slightly freezing while waiting for the start, then five minutes into the race you completely forget about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In fact, I only realized how ideal the conditions were when I looked at my data afterwards. My heart rate stayed surprisingly low throughout much of the race. Runners know exactly what that means: comfortable effort, controlled pacing, and a much more enjoyable experience overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was my race bib. Because I somehow managed to do the one thing every runner promises they’ll never do: Leave it at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The moment I realized it, I thought my day was off to a terrible start. Instead, the organization solved the issue within minutes. No stress, no complications, and no making me feel like the most forgetful person on the planet. It was a small moment, but it says a lot about an event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Great organization isn’t only about when everything goes according to plan. It’s about how quickly problems get solved when something unexpected happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another thing that surprised me was the course itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were beautiful sections throughout the route, including water crossings, forest trails and a few spots that genuinely felt like something out of a movie set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was the kind of course that makes you stop staring at your watch and actually look around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And for me, that’s one of the biggest compliments you can give a trail race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the best parts of Oeiras Trail Run happens after the race. There was music, good food, runners sharing stories from the course, and a relaxed atmosphere that made nobody want to rush home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because at the end of the day, Oeiras Trail Run feels like more than just a race. It feels like an event created by people who genuinely love trail running and want participants to have a great experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I loved the trails. I loved the organization. I loved the atmosphere. And I loved finishing the race feeling like I had spent a genuinely great morning outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
